¿Hacia dónde habrá que llevar a este destino? ¿Alguien lo sabe?
Vallarta vive el verano con el esplendor y la magnificencia de sus montañas, donde la naturaleza pródiga resurge por doquier en esta temporada de lluvias,con la bondad que solo la madre naturaleza nos puede dar. Nuestro entorno es, de tal suerte, más que motivo de orgullo y promoción turística,un patrimonio de todos los mexicanos, si bien poco a poco se está perdiendo para ceder paso al “desarrollo económico” a corto plazo, a través de la industria inmobiliaria de lujo, que afecta a la industria turística en el corto y el largo plazo.
Pero, ¿acaso ambas actividades económicas son irreconciliables? Es el momento de pensar, actuar y velar por el bien del destino y no solo por aquel de unos cuantos pues, históricamente, al final de cada trienio, se aprueban permisos de construcción al por mayor, así como cambios de uso de suelo en perjuicio del patrimonio ecológico del municipio.
Por una parte, los ejidatarios venden terrenos que no cuentan con servicios básicos para vivienda popular, dando pie al surgimiento no planeado de colonias informales en la periferia de la ciudad, un verdadero punto de alerta en materia de salud y seguridad; por otra parte, las grandes inmobiliarias sí cuentan con el visto bueno de las autoridades y se han dedicado a poblar cada vez más las montañas, ofreciendo lujosos condominios que han cambiado para siempre el panorama de Vallarta. Es pues urgente la normalización de esas construcciones, a la vez que la planeación del desarrollo y el rescate de nuestras montañas.
Se requiere que todos los ciudadanos nos involucremos en el futuro de nuestro destino, ya que a todos consta que el plande desarrollo urbano no termina de convencer a los diferentes grupos, entre ellos a expertos ambientalistas, colegio de arquitectos e ingenieros, empresarios, funcionarios y académicos, por que cada grupo tiene diferentes intereses sin que hasta ahora haya sido posible conciliar en favor de nuestro hábitat. Ahora, ante una nueva administración, seguimos sin lograr consensos en espera del plan perfecto, mientras queda una laguna legal que permite obtener permisos de construcción al vapor, sin los estudios rigurosos que exige la ley para evitar el daño ecológico o la imagen de la zona turística, con construcciones modernas, fuera del típico estilo vallartense que tanto gusta a los turistas que nos visitan y que actualmente sólo se aprecia en ciertas partes del centro de la ciudad.
¿Cuál es el patrimonio turístico que debemos conservar y acrecentar?, ¿La imagen del típico pueblito mexicano rodeado de verdes montañas, que es la que nos dio a conocer a nivel internacional?,¿O la de un destino de playa moderno, con una amplia oferta de bares y hoteles todo incluido? ¿Hay algún punto intermedio que ponga límites al desbordamiento invasivo de cualquiera de las posturas de desarrollo?
La pregunta para las autoridades y los expertos en turismo es ¿Hacia dónde habrá que llevar a este destino? ¿Alguien lo sabe?
where to should we take the destination? Does anyone know?
Vallarta is experiencing summer with the splendor and magnificence of its mountains. During this rainy season its prodigious nature resurfaces everywhere with a kindness that only mother nature can provide. Hence, our surroundings are not merely a source of pride and tourist promotion, but rather a patrimony of all Mexicans, although nature is gradually disappearing, yielding to a short term “economic development” through a luxury real estate industry, which is affecting the tourism industry in the short and long term.
But are both economic activities really irreconcilable? Now is the time to think about, act, and watch over for the sake of the destination itself, instead of the interest of only a few. As we have seen historically, at the end of each three-year period, building permits and changes in land use are approved in bulk, often to the detriment of the district’s ecological heritage.
On one hand, communal landowners sell land parcels that do not have basic services for housing, giving rise to an unplanned emergence of informal neighborhoods in the city’s periphery, a genuine red flag in the area of health and safety. On the other hand, the large real estate companies can count on the approval of the authorities and have dedicated themselves to increasingly populate the mountains, offering luxury condominiums that have changed Vallarta’s landscape forever. Therefore it is urgent to regulate these constructions as well as plan the development and rescue of our mountains.
It is necessary for all citizens to get involved in the future of our destination. We are all aware that the urban development plan does not convince several groups, including environmental experts, the Associations of Architects and Engineers, businessmen, officials and academics. Each group has different interests and so far it has been impossible to reconcile them in favor of our habitat. Now, faced with a new administration, we have not succeeded in reaching a consensus and are still waiting for the perfect plan, while legal loopholes allow obtaining building permits out of thin air, without strict studies required by law to prevent environmental damage or harm to the image as a tourist area. These modern constructions are a far cry from the typical Vallarta style, which nowadays can only be seen in certain downtown areas, and is deeply appreciated by the tourists who visit us.

What is the tourist heritage that we should preserve and expand? The image of the typical Mexican town surrounded by lush mountains, which made us famous on an international level? Or that of a modern beach destination with an extensive offer of bars and all inclusive hotels? Might there be some intermediate point that would put limits to an invasive burst of any of the positions on development?
The question for authorities and tourist experts is: where to should we take the destination? Does anyone know?
