Los primeros exámenes y evaluaciones del bebé se llevarán apena nace; En los primeros dos o tres días de vida es común en algunos bebés la secreción de gran cantidad de mucosa incolora que hasta puede causarle vómitos y/o regurgitaciones. Esto se debe a que ocasionalmente su estómago se llena de esta sustancia y el bebé la eliminará a través de su garganta. En el primer y segundo día de vida tu bebé ensuciará el pañal con una sustancia llamada meconio de color oscuro, casi negro. Después de dos o tres días de alimentarse del pecho sus deposiciones serán color amarillo-mostaza y su consistencia floja. Muchos padres bañan a sus bebés todos los días. Sin embargo, un baño completo dos o tres veces por semana es suficiente para un bebé recién nacido. Es difícil generalizar acerca de qué temperatura ambiente debe estar el bebé. Para la mayoría de los bebés recién nacidos la habitación debe estar en 20 grados centígrados aproximadamente; La temperatura ambiente será la correcta si sus manos y pies están frescos y el resto del cuerpo tibio.
